More avoiding the smoke...

On Friday, the smoky conditions still lingered so we spent a lazy morning in camp and decided to make it an easy, low key day. For lunch, we went to one of two restaurants in Marblemount, the Up River Grill & Taproom. Afterwards, we drove to Concrete and went to a swap meet (a flea market by another name). Lots of treasures but none that we needed. Regina was staying at a cute farm with some cabins in Concrete and we stopped by to visit with the animals and check out the river access at the property.

A bakery was calling out to us for an afternoon snack. As it turns out, 5b’s Bakery is a cute locale that is completely gluten free and very delicious. Then it was back to camp for relaxation and playing games. Ross made a delicious ramen dinner for us; a perfect way to end the day.

Saturday was another hiking day. We went to Rockport State Park and discovered it is a wonderful, forested area that provides some nice trails. We hiked the Evergreen Trail which makes a large loop throughout the park and then crossed the highway to walk along the Skagit View Trail which goes above and along the Skagit River. Despite its name, the trail only offers a few glimpses of the river. The forest was lush, green, and mossy; very different than what we see in California.

We had a late lunch at Mondo Restaurant, the other restaurant in Marblemount, before heading back to camp. While eating lunch, we got “ducked” by a fellow Jeep driver (probably the purple Jeep parked next to us).

Ducked!

Regina left to head back home and we spent the evening playing games and snacking on leftovers for dinner. Shoopie and Ross headed home after dinner and we packed up camp, did some RV clean up, and got ready to leave the next morning to our next stop, Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula.
