Lake Day

Our day was spent on Lake Powell enjoying the water. We rented two Sea Doo’s for a half day (5 hours of use) and explored the part of the lake near Antelope Point. Initially we headed east and then turned south into Navajo Canyon. The lake filled in many narrow canyons, and they allow for exploration by watercraft.

Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River created by the Glen Canyon Dam. It is partly in Arizona and partly in Utah. It began filling in 1963 and reached full capacity in 1980. Lake Powell is a major tourist destination with about 2 million visitors every year. Trivia Question for Today: How large in square miles is Lake Powell?

On our return towards the marina area for lunch, a lake law enforcement officer stopped Jen and gave her a warning that we were too close to each other 🙄. As we returned to the marina, we cruised among the many houseboats docked there; doing a little boat shopping 😬. We docked at the marina for lunch and were joined by the lake version of sea gulls or pigeons looking for food scraps to “drop” from our table; they had no luck with us.

After lunch we went back out on the water and headed west and then north around Antelope Island. We got to a more open part of the lake where the scenery changed a bit. There was another marina a little further north, but it was time to turn around and head back to be sure we didn’t get charged the late return fee.

All in all, we had a great time and got too much sun; Jen says this was the best day of the vacation thus far! Back at camp we were welcomed by a wind damaged awning (shudda retracted it before we left🤬). Fortunately, we were able to get it retracted and should be able to get it to work again. We got cleaned up and started the Instant Pot – pulled pork and salad for dinner! Cocktail of the day was a margarita.
Tomorrow, we have a guided tour of lower Antelope Canyon and then hit the road and head to Grand Canyon. It will be a shorter drive with a few stops to see sights along the way.
Trivia Answer: Lake Powell is 254.1 square miles, 185.8 miles long, and has an average depth of 132 feet.
